What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation. It can be described as similar to a daydream type state, where you are neither fully asleep or fully awake. We can even experience a level of trance in our everyday lives, for example, when reading a good book, watching tv, exercising or when driving. When in a hypnotic trance, it is easier to access the subconscious part of the mind. This is because the conscious part of the mind is otherwise engaged and less resistant. In this state, we are able to take on board new suggestions and change unwanted behaviours.
Is it safe?
Absolutely. As stated above, trance is a natural state and is perfectly safe.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Although there are varying levels of susceptibility to hypnosis, everyone is capable of entering the trance state. Some may go into a deeper trance than others but research shows that regardless of this, Hypnotherapy can still be highly effective.
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is just as the name suggests, it is solution focused, meaning that there is no requirement to delve into past traumas or events during the process, that may illicit negative feelings. SFH works by giving power and strength to the positive aspects of your life, and laying new neural pathways for happiness.
Will I lose control whilst in trance?
No, you are always fully in control. Hypnotherapy is nothing like the kind of hypnosis you see on stage. Trance is simply a deeply relaxed state. You can’t be made to do or say anything against your will.
What happens during a Hypnotherapy session?
The session will involve approximately 25 minutes of talking and 25 minutes of trance. The talking phase combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming techniques to help establish a plan for the achievement of goals, and the trance allows the subconscious mind to come up with solutions.
How many sessions will I need and how often?
This will depend on the individual and on the nature of the issue. A straight forward phobia can be addressed in 4 sessions whereas treatment for anxiety, depression, or other complaints can take between 8 and 12 sessions. However, this does depend on the person, it could be more or it could be less. It is recommended that sessions are carried out once per week for optimum effectiveness.
